Science - Sex of a baby is determined by the sperm

The sex of a baby is determined by the sperm. A sperm cell carries either an X or a Y chromosome, while the egg cell always carries an X chromosome. If a sperm with an X chromosome fertilizes the egg, the resulting child will be female (XX). If a sperm with a Y chromosome fertilizes the egg, the resulting child will be male (XY).

  • Chromosomes: Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, one of which determines sex. These are called sex chromosomes.
  • Females: Females have two X chromosomes (XX).

In Sura 53 of the Holy Qur'an, we see that Allah (SWT) gives life and death and creates female and male from the SPERM!  Simply when the verses talk about the sex of the baby, they mention the "sperm" pointing to the fact that the sperm is responsible for it.


وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا

And that it is He who causes death and gives life  53:44 



وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ

And that He creates the two mates - the male and female  53:45


مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ

From a sperm-drop  when it is emitted  53:46
