The destiny of Abu Lahab and his wife
Sura 111 vividly describes the destiny of Abu Lahab and his wife. Both were firm enemies of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). We are going to skip the historical events surrounding their animosity. This sura was revealed was Abu Lahab and his wife were still alive. The fascinating thing is the following: They could have proved this sura wrong by pretending to accept Islam and theoretically be forgiven! However, they didn't!
تَبَّتْ يَدَآ أَبِى لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ
Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he!
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ
His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained
سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ
He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame
وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلْحَطَبِ
His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!
فِى جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍۭ
Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber. 111:1-5
